Mercedes-Benz Debuts Its First Pop-up Camper Van for U.S. Market

Mercedes-Benz has announced a new pop-up camper van for the U.S. market. Mercedes-Benz drew inspiration from models of the past while integrating modern safety, reliability and convenience features.

The new camper vans are built by Driverge Vehicle Innovations in partnership with Peace Vans. The pop-up camper offers flexibility: the Metris is suitable as a daily driver in cities or for recreational purposes.

“Pop up campers are iconic and highly functional vehicles,“ said Robert Veit, vice president and managing director of Mercedes-Benz USA Vans. “We have known for a long time that this market need was unmet as evidenced by the high demand for aging existing camper vans still on the road. With the help of our partners, Peace Vans and Driverge, we have utilized the Metris to create a product suited to those who seek adventure, but also need a versatile and comfortable vehicle for their day-to-day lives.”

The Weekender’s standard features include:

An elevating roof with a sleeping area for two, with an integrated spring system, 2-inch memory foam mattress, three windows, and added USB ports
A multipurpose rear bench seat that opens up into a bed for two.
Swiveling front seats that rotate 180 degrees for use as multipurpose lounge seating.
A second battery to power devices, lighting or other needs

Optional features include:
Off-grid power and integrated solar panels
Upgraded audio and navigation features

Camping upgrades:
8-foot awning
Mosquito/bug screens
Tent that attaches to the rear lift gate
Roof racks
Pullout rear kitchen

The Mercedes-Benz Metris provides is the platform for the Weekender. Its tow rating is 5,000 pounds. Standard features of the Metris include Attention Assist, rearview camera and ECO start/stop.
